EMERGENCY CARDS
Annually, each student is given a new Emergency Card so parents can update school records with current address, home and work telephone numbers, and an alternate telephone number so that a student may be cared for in case of illness or emergency. The alternate telephone number(s) should be of a friend, relative or neighbor nearby, who can care for the student in the event parents can’t be reached. We must have an active working number at all times. Contact the office to arrange a time to update your student’s card as needed.
A STUDENT WILL BE RELEASED ONLY TO PERSONS NAMED ON THE EMERGENCY CARD WITH PROOF OF IDENTIFICATION. During the year, please report telephone, address, contact persons, or medical changes to the school office at once.
LEAVING SCHOOL GROUNDS
Ranchero Middle School has a closed campus policy. Students may not leave the school site during school hours unless they are signed out in the school lobby. Parents/guardians, with valid identification, must sign the student out. Be aware that neighbors, relatives, baby-sitters, etc., may not take students from the school grounds unless they are listed on the student’s Emergency Card and show valid identification. This policy is critical for student safety.
MEDICATION
Educational Code Section 49423
Administration of Prescribed Medication
Per the Education Code, any pupil who needs medication prescribed by a physician during the school day, may be assisted by the school nurse or other designated school personnel if the school district receives:
1. A written statement from the physician detailing the method, amount, and time schedule for the medication, AND
2. A written statement from the parent or guardian for school personnel to supervise the dispensing. This also includes over-the-counter medication (i.e. inhalers, aspirin, or cold medicine.)
3. In order for a student to carry an inhaler on campus, proper documentation must be on file with the Health office. Contact the school for necessary forms.
INSURANCE
Ranchero Middle School does not provide medical insurance coverage for school accidents. This means that you are responsible for the medical bills if your child gets hurt during school activities. Please review the suggested student accident/health insurance plans which are offered as a courtesy to your family. We strongly suggest the Student Health Care of High Option 24-Hour Plans which are especially helpful for those students with no other insurance coverage.
